As we enter into the thick of the fall season, it’s the perfect time to embrace the cooler weather, changing leaves, and pumpkin-spice everything. With seemingly endless options for ways to enjoy the fall season, it’s hard to know where to start. Don’t worry, Avalanche has got you covered! Keep reading to see the 7 ways we recommend maximizing the fall season into November.
1. Hiking
A hike, whether leisurely or more challenging, is a perfect way to take in gorgeous views and breathtaking fall foliage. The burning reds, oranges, and yellows are around for only a brief window, so October/November is the best time to take the hike that’s been collecting dust on your bucket list. Lace up your boots and don’t forget a camera!
2. Corn Maze
The corn maze is a fall classic, rivaled only by the hayride that’s always much shorter than you expect it to be. Brave the fields with a group of friends, your family, or a significant other, winding your way through the towering stalks in the most sophisticated test of memory around. Even if you’ve never done a corn maze before, there is a nostalgia that accompanies navigating the winding paths. What better way is there to spend a sunny, autumn day?
3. Outdoor Yoga
Roll out your mat or simply find a plot of grass – November is the time to soak up those last rays of sun, so why not do so with some yoga? Opt for an early morning session for a chillier practice or stretch and strengthen during the warmer afternoons. Include some meditation in your yoga practices, surrounded by the fall leaves and a crisp breeze. There’s nothing more calming!
4. Bicycling
Similar to hiking, biking is a great way to work up a sweat while still taking in the fleeting fall scenery. Find a new path or return to an old favorite; enjoy the weather alone or grab a few friends to join you; bike through mountains or around a lake. Biking is an easy and flexible activity to make the most of this fall season!
5. Camping
A fall camping trip contains all of the autumn activity essentials: trails, fishing, stargazing, and of course, bonfires! Pick a cool, clear weekend and don’t forget your gear. Pitch a tent or sleep beneath the stars. Fall weather makes for great fishing conditions, so set up near a pond or lake if that piques your interest. If you’re more drawn to a nature walk, find a place with lots of trees to make the most of the autumn colors.
6. Visit a National Park
Many of our national parks house impressive forests bursting with color during the October/November season. Make a weekend out of a trip to that national park you’ve always wanted to visit – bring some binoculars to get a closer look at the local wildlife, take a kayak out on the idyllic lakes, or maybe even try your hand at horseback riding. National parks offer endless opportunities to enjoy nature with stunning, autumnal scenery as your backdrop.
7. Stop By a Local Farmer’s Market
Treat yourself to some hot apple cider, apples sourced from local orchards, and seasonal pastries at a nearby farmer’s market. With its friendly people, delicious food, and picturesque fall atmosphere, the farmer’s market embodies everything that makes autumn great. Supporting local businesses is also always a plus!
Although the hot, summer days may be behind us, fall presents us opportunities for new, exciting adventures – you just have to know where to look. From hikes to bikes to markets, autumn is a true treasure trove of outdoor activities, with the added bonus of cozy weather and changing leaves. It’s easy to get the most out of this fall season!
